LA Times Folds BrandX

It was reported two weeks ago in LAObserved that the L.A. Times would cease publishing its' youth arts & events-based free weekly tabloid, BrandX.  The last issue was published June 29, and the web site was shut-down July 8.    Staffers at the publication will be transitioned elsewhere in the organization.   The L.A. Times accompanied the announcement with news of expansion in Times Community News papers in Pasadena, Laguna Niguel and Aliso Viejo.

Times Community Newspapers Launches Two New Publications

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Times Community Newspapers will launch two new publications later this week. On Friday August 5th, the Pasadena Sun will launch as a weekly publication, and on Sunday August 7th, the Sunday Valley Sun will launch, covering the San Gabriel Valley weekly.

Hoy Fin De Semana to Increase Distribution

The Los Angeles Times Media Group has announced that the Hoy Fin De Semana will increase its distribution from 500k to 700,103 households, and expand from 120 zip codes to 186 zip codes, effective October 2nd, 2010.  The Hoy Fin De Semana is a Hispanic weekend publication that covers Hispanic dominant zip codes in the Los Angeles area.

Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register to Jointly Publish Supplement Product

The Times and Orange County Register will together launch a weekly advertising supplement to be distributed in both papers. The supplement, OCSaver/Local Values, will be inserted into the Friday editions of the newspapers that will go to subscribers in Orange County beginning Aug. 28, said representatives of the Los Angeles Times Media Group and Orange County Register Communications on Tuesday.

In addition, the supplement will be distributed in the Register's 25 community newspapers and in The Times' Spanish-language newspaper Hoy Fin de Semana.

In some areas of the county, households that do not subscribe to The Times or Register will receive the supplement by mail."The combined OCSaver/Local Values distribution program will have access to nearly 1 million Orange County households," said Terry Horne, publisher of the Register, in a statement.

Eddy Hartenstein, publisher of The Times, said the venture by the two newspaper companies will be "harnessing the unparalleled reach of our distribution systems."
