The Modesto Bee, a McClatchy Publication, converted to a 44-Inch Web size effective with today's edition (Tuesday, August 31st, 2010) per Editor & Publisher.

Marengo Shopping Guide Closed

The Demopolis Times closed its TMC product the Marengo Shopping Guide effective August 11, 2010.  The Times still has the Blackbelt Gazette as a TMC product.

Money Mailer Expands Seattle Coverage

Money Mailer has announced that it is expanding its coverage of downtown Seattle, effective January 2011.  This will target an additional 108,000 households.

Glens Falls Post Star Discontinues ADK Talk

The Glens Falls Post Star has announced that it will discontinue its non-subscriber product ADK Talk effective September 1, 2010.  The Post-Star plans to pursue other opportunities on its site poststar.com.

The ADK Talk was formed two years ago when the Post Star decided to merge two of its weekly publications, the Queensbury Citizen and the Glens Falls Leader, into one product.

Houston Community Newspapers Announces Changes

Houston Community Newspapers (HCN) announced that effective October 3rd, 2010, the Pasadena Citizen will switch from daily distribution (Tuesday through Sunday) to twice a week with only Wednesday and Sunday distribution.  Sunday's distribution will be paid only, with the current 4,145 quantity.  Wednesday will be a combined paid and free distribution of approximately 12,000.

HCN also announced plans to start a new paper to help expand coverage into the Katy, TX area.  The group will launch the Cinco Ranch Sun, with an anticipated free distribution of 26,000.  This publication along with the Katy Sun should provide additional coverage to the area.  The launch date has not yet been announced.

Rio Grande City Herald Closes

The Rio Grande City Herald, circulation approximately 3,000, closed on April 29th, 2010 per the Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce.

Capital Gazette Newspapers Merge

The Annapolis West County Gazette and Crofton News-Crier, two weekly publications in the Capital Gazette Communications group, merged to form the Annapolis Crofton-West County Gazette on July 1st, 2010.  The new publication distributes on Thursday.

The Annapolis Capital Gazette also launched a Sunday Select program on July 25th.

Route 40 Flier Discontinued

Chesapeake Publishing discontinued publishing the Router 40 Flier, with coverage of Newark, DE, effective May 2010 due to the poor economy.

Kewaunee Publications - Further Changes - Door Reminder to Close

As reported last Friday, the Kewaunee Publications (WI) was merging three weekly publications into a new publication. Further news from the Green Bay Press Gazette indicate that the Kewaunee Publications will close the free shopper Door Reminder on September 7, 2010.

Kewaunee will also launch a new alternative weekly called the Door County Now with Wednesday distribution.  This publication will be launched on September 15, 2010, and will be the result of a merger of the Resorter Reporter and the Kewaunee Vacation Guide.

Kewaunee Publications Merge

Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers will be merging together three publications from the Kewaunee area of Wisconsin.  Effective September 18th, 2010, the Kewaunee County News, Kewaunee County Star and Kewaunee County Snapshots will all merge to be come the Kewaunee County Star-News.

The new Kewaunee County Star-News will be a free weekly publication distributed on Saturdays.  The County News was a paid weekly with Wednesday distribution, the County Star a free weekly with Wednesday distribution and the Snapshots was a free Saturday publication.

Observer Dispatch Merges / Closes Pennysaver Editions

The Observer Dispatch (Utica, NY) merged four of its existing Pennysaver editions into the new Utica & Suburbs Pennysaver, effective July 22, 2010. The affected editions were the Utica Pennysaver, New Hartford Pennysaver, Clinton Riverside Pennysaver and Whitesboro Pennysaver.  The Utica & Suburbs Pennsyaver is expended to cover over 34,000 households via direct mail.

The Observer Dispatch also discontinued publishing of the North Country Pennysaver, effective July 8th, 2010.  That area now remains uncovered by the pennysaver group.

Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group Restructures

The Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group, a publisher of eight weekly publications covering North Carolina has added and removed some publications from its group.  The Mooresville Weekly was launched at the end of May, 2010, and the group plans on launching the Concord Weekly on January 1st, 2011. 

The University City Weekly was discontinued at the end of May, 2010 due to poor circulation.

Ada Herald Sold to Delphos Herald, Inc

The Ada Herald has been sold to the Delphos Herald, Inc as part of the bankruptcy sale surrounding Brown Publishing Co. The sale included three other Brown Publishing publications: Van Wert Times Bulletin, Putnam County Sentinel, and Columbus Grove Vidette.
